SJRCRC Sporting Regulations
Latest Revision: May 23, 2016. Latest revisions in underlined
R1. These regulations apply to all racing classes at all racing events hosted by SJRCRC.
R2. All participants are to respect our host venue. Put garbage in the garbage cans, clean up any spills, wipe your shoes off as you enter (or wear separate indoor shoes/slippers). If we leave garbage or footprints throughout the school, we will lose the venue. Please use a pit towel.
R3. Track layouts will change weekly as desired by the racers.
R3.1 For variety, If the raceday falls on a date that is an even number the cars will race counter-clockwise, if the raceday falls on a date that is an odd number the cars will race clockwise.
R4. Entry fee of $5 per person is in effect.
Race Night Format (Qualifying)
R5. Races shall be 5 minutes in length with a maximum of 7 cars on track.
R6. Qualifying will be conducted in a set of at minimum 2 qualifying races, with the typical night having 3 qualifiers.
R7. If there are more than 7 entries in a class, qualifying for the class will be split into 2 random groups.
R8. Races will be started from a F1 style standing start. If a drivers launches before the start signal is given, that driver shall be moved to the back of the grid.
R9. In qualifying drivers may choose to start from anywhere on the grid. Faster drivers will be given first preference.
R10. The highest number of laps per driver during qualifying will seed that driver into the appropriate main.
R11. In case of a tie in qualifying, the number of laps completed in the shortest amount of time will break the tie.
R12. At the completion of qualifying cars will be grouped into 6 car finals, leaving the option for 2 cars to bump up. For example, if there are 8 entries, the top 4 are in the “A” main, the bottom 4 are in the “B” Main with the option for the top 2 of the B Main to bump to the A Main
Race Night Format (Finals)
R13. The intent is to have a 6 car final in each of the classes. If there are 7 cars all will run together. If there are 8 there will be an A and B with bump ups as described in R16.
R14. Mains consist of 1 race, 5 minutes in length each class.
R15. Main Race starting grid is to be set by highest number of laps ranking with the highest laps to the front.
R16. The top ranked drivers at the end of the B Main races shall be promoted to the “A” Main. (For example, if a class has 8 entries, the top 4 from qualifying make the “A” Main, the bottom 4 are in the “B” Main. At the end of the “B” Mains, the top 2 drivers are promoted to the “A” Main)
R17. If a tie exists in the “B” main right at the promotion line, all tied drivers shall be promoted and the “A” Main will have more than 6 cars.
R18. During any round of racing cars are impounded. Minor repairs may be made by hand but there are to be no chassis adjustments, battery charging or adding of traction compound.
Editor’s Note:
During qualifying heats, if a car is damaged and requires repair, it may receive necessary repairs to keep the car participating but qualifying races will not be delayed. The damaged car is welcome to re-join the round at any time. During mains, the above mentioned impound rule is in effect, racers are to only complete REPAIRS to keep a car running, performance enhancing adjustments, adding of traction compound or battery charging are not to take place.
Championship Points
R19. Points are awarded based on the number of entries in a class where the 1st place finalist in the A main will receive 2x the number of racers as points, 2nd place will receive 2 less points than 1st, 3rd will receive 2 less than 2nd and so on through all the mains. For example, 10 entries in 'spec' class will award 20 points to 1st, 18 points to 2nd, 16 points to 3rd and so on to the last place finalist which receives 2 points.
R20. 1 additional point will be awarded to the driver in each class that had the 'fastest lap' of the class. The fast lap can be earned in any qualifying race or final.
R21. If there are 2 (or more) cars that did not start their final, those will be awarded the tie of the next higher position. For example, 10 entries in spec with 2 cars failing to start the B main. Each car will receive 4 points.
R22. If there is a cancellation of a race night due to unforeseen circumstances then all drivers who have participated in the series will receive 1st place points for the cancelled night.
R23. There shall be 3 points series: Fall (Sep-Nov), Winter (Dec-Feb), Spring (Mar-May), each series will have approximately 8 races.
R24. The championship will use each drivers’ 6 best points totals earned each race night.
R25. If a tie exists in the championship points, the drivers shall be considered tied and 2 awards will be given for that position.
R26. All cars require a TrackMate scoring transponder to be counted. These transponders are available for sale through the club or private suppliers. Drivers are responsible for their transponders. If a transponder malfunctions during a race, the effected driver is to report the problem to the race organizer and the problem will be looked into to see if it as an individual transponder problem or a club system problem. All steps will be taken to rectify the problem if the problem is on the club side including re-running a race.
